AFS - Kanazawa Research Fellowship
18 Jun, 2008

In 1996, the Dr. Akio Kanazawa Foundation and the Asian Fisheries Society (AFS) signed a Memorandum of Agreement to establish the AFS – Kanazawa Research Fellowship. The Foundation transferred the amount of one hundred thousand US dollars to the Society's bank account in Manila, Philippines to be put in a trust fund. The interest earned from the Kanazawa Trust Account (KTA) will be used by the Society to award young scientists under the AFS Research Fellowship Awards Scheme. Deadline for application submission was set last January 31, 2008. After the evaluation by a committee appointed by the AFS Council, I am pleased to announce that the first AFS – Kanazawa Research Fellowship will be awarded to Mr. Sekar Meharajan from the Central Institute of Fisheries Education, India. I would like to congratulate Mr. Sekar Meharajan on his excellent proposal, and also encourage more young scientists to apply for the AFS – Kanazawa Research Fellowship in the future.
