Dr Lee is the Project Coordinator of the ACIAR funded trochus project (2005-2007). He is a member of the Aquaculture Advisory Group, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, Victoria and the Advisory Panel of the ACIAR Sea-Cucumber Project. Chan-Lui is the principal of the Asia-Pacific Aquaculture Consulting Pty Ltd based in Melbourne.
Chan-Lui graduated with a B.Sc. Hons from Monash University, Melbourne and a Ph.D. from the University of Queensland, Australia. He was the Senior Lecturer in charge of Aquaculture in the Charles Darwin University and prior to his recent retirement, the Senior Principal Scientist with the Western Australia Fisheries and the Adjunct Professor at the RMIT University, Melbourne.
Chan-Lui was an academic and scientist in aquaculture. In his career of some 35 years, he received and was associated in successful research funding >$10 million. He was involved in zooplankton studies, Macrobrachium rosenbergii culture, induced spawning of fish and aquaculture of the topshell, Trochus niloticus. He published over 60 papers and proceedings, including the major reports on the aquaculture of the Southern Bluefin tuna and the National Indigenous Aquaculture Development Strategy on behalf of the Commonwealth of Australia.

Dr. Gupta retired from WorldFish Center, Malaysia in August 2004 as its Assistant Director General after being with the Center for 15 years from 1989-2004. He was also Research Coordinator of International Network on Genetics in Aquaculture (INGA) from 1996 to 2004 and coordinated aquaculture genetics research in 13 member countries from Asia, Pacific and Africa. Before joining WorldFish Center, Gupta worked with FAO of United Nations as Fish Culture Expert in Bangladesh and before that for 9 years (1977-1986) worked with United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and Pacific (UN-ESCAP) in Laos, Thailand and Vietnam as Fish Culture and Breeding Expert. Before joining UN, Gupta worked with Indian Council of Agricultural Research from 1962-1976.
His expertise spanning over 44 years is in: Aquaculture and fisheries research and development; Development of national strategic plans in developing countries; Research planning and management; Research & development project formulation; Review and evaluation of research and development projects; Capacity building among developing country scientists; and Networking and donor and partner relations.
Gupta has been a Consultant to:

Dr. Ida Siason is currently Professor of Social Psychology at the Social Sciences Division, College of Arts and Sciences of the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV), at which university she recently completed her two terms of office as its Chancellor. She is a member of the Board of Trustees of the WorldFish Center. She is the charter president of the National Network on Women in Fisheries in the Philippines, in which organization she now serves as a member of the Board.
Dr. Siason obtained her masters in Psychology degree from the Ateneo de Manila University (Philippines) and her PhD Social Psychology from the Pennsylvania State University, USA. Aside from teaching and her long experience as an academic administrator, Dr. Siason is an active social science researcher. Her research has been in social analysis and women's studies, particularly research in the social psychological characterization of fishing communities, gender issues in fisheries, enforcement and compliance of fisheries regulation, community-based coastal resource management and violence against women. She has presented papers in national and international conferences in psychology and fisheries. She has spearheaded activities to promote fisheries social science in the Philippines.

Houng-Yung Chen is a Professor in the Institute of Marine Biology, National Sun Yat-sen University. He graduated from National Taiwan University with a BS degree in zoology in 1975 and a MS degree in Oceanography in 1978 and received his Ph.D. with the work on crustacean nutrition in1983 from Texas A&M University. He since has worked for National Sun Yat-sen University as a faculty member in the Institute of Marine Biology. He teaches aquaculture nutrition and biological oceanography. His main research includes basic nutrient requirements and interactions in penaeid shrimp as well as interactions of nutrients and immunity for groupers and cobia. His recent works are adiposity and adipogenesis-related gene expression in cobia. He also engages in research related to nutritive state of iron for nitrogen-fixing plankton in the Kuroshio and the South China Sea.
As a professor, he teaches graduate courses including fish nutrition, physiological ecology of marine organisms and marine ecology. He also works with graduate students in researches mainly in fish and shellfish nutrition. Currently his laboratory has 3 PhD students, 8 MS students and 2 full-time assistants. Most of them work on research dealing with interactions between nutrition and immunity, or molecular nutrition, or immunostimulants. Over the last ten years, Chen has authored about 30 papers published in refereed journals. In recent years, he has been the PI for a government-supported project aiming to reduce the use of fishmeal in marine finfish feeds.

Dr. Guerrero is the Executive Director of the Philippine Council for Aquatic and Marine Research and Development (Department of Science and Technology). He is an Academician (Fisheries Management) of the National Academy of Science and Technology and President, Philippine Fisheries Association, Inc.
Rafael graduated with a B.S. in Zoology and M.S. in Applied Zoology from the University of the Philippines, and Ph.D. in Fisheries Management from Auburn University (USA). He served as Dean of the College of Inland Fisheries of the Central Luzon State University in Nueva Ejica, Philippines and Director for Extension and Training of the Southeast Asian Fisheries Development Center's Aquaculture Department.
He has published over 200 technical and popular papers on aquaculture, water resources management and vermiculture, and was involved in various fisheries, marine science and vermiculture programs with funding greater than US$ 20 million from national and international sources.

Prof. Roshada Hashim is a lecturer in the School of Biological Sciences, Universiti Sains Malaysia and has been with the university since 1986. She obtained her PhD in Biochemistry from the University of Salford, UK. Her research interest is in the field of Aquaculture specializing in Fish Nutrition and Feeding Management of commercially important local freshwater fish species.
To date she has published extensively in international and local journals in particular the development of the portable canvas tank system for the commercial production of freshwater fish. During her tenure at USM she has also been appointed consultant and resource person to various aquaculture projects locally and internationally, and conducted workshops with emphasis on feed development and feeding management.

Dr. Jo is a full professor and has been teaching and research at Pukyong National University, Busan, Korea since 1990. He also was a professor of Cheju National University for 12 years (1978-1990). He served as the Dean of the College of Fisheries Sciences in Pukyong National University for 2 years (2000-2002). He also served as the president of Korean Aquaculture Society from 2002 to 2004 and as an editor in chief of the Journal of Korean Aquaculture Society for 4 years (1991-1994).
He was awarded PhD at Auburn University, Alabama in 1988. He received his BSc and MSc degrees at the National Fisheries University of Pusan, Busan, Korea in 1972 and 1974, respectively.
His major current research focus is on the environmentally friendly intensive aquaculture system especially for developing highly intensive but simple and stable recirculating aquaculture system. Pumps are the only moving part of the system. Fish farmers can easily maintain 100 – 150 kg of tilapia, common carp or other freshwater fishes per cubic meters of tank water volume. He is also interested in the treatment of aquaculture effluent from fish farms. He recently finished 3-year government project of effluent treatment of semi-recirculating for rainbow trout.
He published over 80 scientific papers in professional journals and many more in books, conference proceedings, etc.

Dr. Hisashi Kurokura received his Ph.D. degree from the Graduate School of Agricultural Sciences, The University of Tokyo in 1979. His thesis title was “Studies on cryopreservation of Salmonid sperm”. After working for one year in a private company as an engineer for technical cooperation to developing countries, he obtained the position of Assistant Professor at the Fisheries Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture, The University of Tokyo in 1980. While working there, he learned techniques in environmental and ecological field survey in addition to conducting his own research activities for reproduction technology of aquatic animals. In 1983, he transferred to the Faculty of Applied Biological Science, Hiroshima University and continued his work as a researcher, lecturer and Associate Professor. He made wide and intimate human network among aquaculturists and researchers of seed production of aquatic organisms in the western part of Japan. After returning to the Fisheries Laboratory of the Faculty of Agriculture, The University of Tokyo, he studied the improvement of quality of seed for stock enhancement in addition to his on-going research activities. Through that study he made many friends in the local community of a coastal fishing town. In 1997, he shifted his position from the Department of Aquatic Biology to be a professor at the Department of Global Agricultural Sciences, a newly established department for international cooperation for development in the agricultural field. His research interests later expanded from just the basic biology of aquatic organisms to social issues for effective technology transfer and development of local societies in developing countries, using his broad experiences and human network.

Dr. Shiau is the National Endowed Chair Professor in Fish Nutrition at Department of Food and Nutrition, Providence University and Department of Food Science, National Taiwan Ocean University. Shi-Yen was President of the Taiwan Fisheries Society (2001-2005), Vice President (Taipei Branch) of the Asian Fisheries Society (1998-2004) and Board Director of the World Aquaculture Society (2001-2004). Since 1994, 1995, he has served on the International Union of Nutritional Science Committee on Fish & Shellfish Nutrition, and the National Committee for the Pacific Science Association, respectively. Also, since 1996, Shi-Yen has been a member of scientific committee of the International Symposium on Nutrition and Feeding of Fish. Shi-Yen serves on the editorial boards of the Journals "Aquaculture", "Aquaculture Nutrition" and "Aquaculture Research", starting from Jan 2005, Shi-Yen serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Asian Fisheries Science.
Shi-Yen graduated with a Ph.D. in Animal Nutrition at the Texas Tech University and spend 3 years in postdoctoral research in the Department of Nutritional Science, University of California at Berkeley. Since returning to Taiwan in 1983, Dr. Shiau has been an active researcher, supervised more than 80 graduate students for their master or doctor degrees. He published over 120 international refereed journal papers and received numerous awards for outstanding research. His current research interests include: biological basis of micro-nutrient requirements and nutrient interactions in tilapia, grouper and grass shrimp and their effects on immunity.

Dr. Yang Yi received his B.Sc. in Genetics from Sichuan University, China in 1985, M.Sc. and D. Tech. Sc. in Aquaculture from the Asian Institute of Technology (AIT), Thailand in 1992 and 1997, respectively. His research interests include aquaculture production systems, aquaculture wastewater treatment and recycling, water quality analysis and management in aquaculture, fish genetics and information data. He was a Visiting Research Investigator at the University of Michigan, USA, where he gained advanced knowledge in computer modeling, experimental design and data analysis. He has 20 years of teaching and research experience in aquaculture. He is an Associate Professor at AIT seconded by the University of Michigan through USAID sponsored Aquaculture CRSP project, and is coordinating the aquaculture CRSP activities in South and Southeast Asian countries such as Bangladesh, Nepal and Vietnam as well as China. He is a member of the Editorial Board of the Asian Fisheries Science.

Prof. Fatimah is the Director of the Institute of Bioscience, Universiti Putra Malaysia. She also serves as a Lecturer in the Department of Biology at the same university. With 27 years of teaching and research experience in the field of aquatic ecology, she is an expert in tropical aquatic ecosystem management. Her research mainly deals with ecological studies of different aquatic ecosystems such as reservoirs, lakes, coastal waters and aquaculture systems, especially in the fields of bioremediation and bio-augmentation to increase aquatic production in a sustainable manner. Her work on the culture of different zooplankton/microalgal species, and water quality management in aquaculture systems has led to various discoveries to upgrade live feed and improvement in water quality in the aquaculture industry. Prof. Fatimah is also a consultant to various environmental and aquaculture related companies. She has earned several awards at national and international levels including a Gold Medal at the International Trade Fair Ideas and Inventions-New Products (IENA) 2006, Germany. She obtained her B.A. Zoology degree in 1977 from Drew University, N.J., U.S.A. and her M.Sc. and Ph.D. (Limnology) degrees from Michigan State University, U.S.A. in 1987 and 1979, respectively.

Prof. Zhou graduated from Shanghai Fisheries College in 1964 after studying Marine Fisheries and majoring in Industrial Fishing. From 1979 – 1982, he studied fish behaviour at Marine Lab, Aberdeen, U.K. as a visiting scholar. Since the early 1980’s Prof. Zhou has worked at Shanghai Fisheries University, published more than 70 papers and textbooks in the field of mechanics of fishing gear, fish swimming behaviour, fishery management and higher education in fisheries.He has been a Chairman of the Shanghai Fisheries Society and a Deputy Director of the China Society of Fisheries, among his many contributions to the fisheries community. He is also involved in international fisheries conservation and management activities mainly associated with FAO, AFS and WFS. Since 1983, Prof. Zhou has been the Editor-in-Chief of the Journal of Fisheries of China (in Chinese, published by the China Fisheries Society), member of the editorial advisory board of Fisheries Research (ELSEVIER) and Environment Biology of Fish (Springer). He was the Dean of the College of Marine Science at SFU and the President of SFU from 1996 – 2004.
At present he is the Executive Director of the Chinese Fishery Development Strategy Study Center, Member of the 5th Committee of the Academic Degree of State Council of China, the advisor for Chinese Deep Sea Fishery Association, and a Councilor of the 7th and 8th Councils of the Asia Fisheries Society. He plays an active role as an advisor to the Chinese fishing industry and the government. He is also Deputy Director of the Shanghai Research Society for Pacific Region Economic Development, Deputy Director of Shanghai Society of Fisheries Economics, and a member of the 7th Science & Technical Committee, Ministry of Agriculture, China.
