The Yang Yi Young Scientist Fellowship was set up to memorialize Prof. Yang Yi, a former senior staff member of Shanghai Ocean University, AquaFish CRSP researcher, and past president of the Asian Fisheries Society (AFS). The Fellowship supports excellent young scientists in presenting their findings at the triennial Asian Fisheries and Aquaculture Forum (AFAF) run by the AFS. The AFS Award Committee will be responsible for finalizing the awards with the assistance of the Executive Officer based at the AFS Secretariat.
- AFS Executive Officer at the AFS Secretariat The award will be administered by the AFS Executive Officer at the AFS Secretariat, Laboratory of Aquatic Animal Health and Therapeutics (AquaHealth), Institute of Bioscience, University Putra Malaysia 43400 UPM Serdang, Selangor, Malaysia.
- Beneficiary The Yang Yi Young Scientist Fellowship will support two young scientists (less than 35 years old) who already have a Ph.D. degree or who are Ph.D. candidates (less than 35 years old) to attend the triennial AFAF run by the AFS. Applications are welcome from all qualified young scientists residing in the Asia-Pacific (AP) region as defined by the AFS Constitution. Young scientists who have been involved in the AquaFish Innovation Lab or the Aquaculture CRSP in the AP region are strongly encouraged to apply to attend the forum and present their research findings.
- Scope In 2024, the Fellowship will support two young scientists (one male and one female) to attend the 14th AFAF to be held 12-15 February 2025, in New Delhi, India. The Fellowship will cover economy return tickets (up to US$700), conference registration fee (US$300), 4 nights' accommodation (US$250), and out of pocket expenses (US$250) – a total of US$1,500 for each of the two successful awardees.
- Each winner of the award must be able to:
- Present his/her research findings at the 14AFAF as an oral presentation.
- Acknowledge the AFS Yang Yi Young Scientist Fellowship in his/her presentation.
- Application time Six months before the AFAF, the AFS secretariat will announce to the AFS website.
