Notice of AFS Nominations and Elections (15th Council)
Dear AFS Members,
This is to announce that we have 13 nominees for the AFS 15th Council (2025-2028) and one position (Incoming President) for ratification by the General Assembly during the 14th Asian Fisheries and Aquaculture Forum. The Immediate Past President is an automatic member of the next Council. This makes a total of 14 Councillors, with a 15th Councillor to be co-opted by the host of the 15th Asian Fisheries and Aquaculture Forum. The AFS Executive Committee will be voted on by the 15th Council during its first council meeting. This committee is composed of the Immediate Past President, President, Vice President, Secretary and Treasurer. A year later, the "Incoming President" is chosen by Council and joins the Executive Committee.

*Under the Constitution, there are 14 Council members including the Incoming AFS President and Immediate Past President, with a maximum of two Councillors from one country. One Councillor can be co-opted by the host country of the Asian Fisheries and Aquaculture Forum *As we have 13 nominations for the 12 open Councillor positions, we will have an election during the General Assembly for the 15th Council..
The Constitution and By-Laws of the AFS as follows:
1) Nominations of candidates for election as Councillors: a) Shall be made in writing signed by two full members of the Society and accompanied by the written consent of the candidate (which may be endorsed on the form of nomination); b) Shall be accompanied by a brief biography of the candidate; c) Shall be delivered to the Executive Officer of the Society at least three months before the date fixed for the holding of the General Assembly; d) Not more than two persons from the same nationality or from one country or territory in the Asia Pacific will be elected to the Council at the same time.
2) If insufficient nominations are received to fill all vacancies on the Council, the candidates nominated shall be deemed to be elected and further nominations for the vacant Council positions shall be received at the General Assembly.
3) If the number of nominations received is equal to the number of vacancies to be filled, the persons nominated shall be deemed to be elected.
4) If the number of nominations exceeds the number of vacancies to be filled, a ballot shall be held.
5) The ballot for the election of Councillors shall be conducted by using available secured mechanisms as decided by the Executive Committee and at the General Assembly in such usual and proper manner as the Council may direct.
