The Asian Fisheries Society (AFS) convened its 70th Council Meeting on July 15, 2026, in Nha Trang, Vietnam. The AFS President of the 15th Council, Prof. Liping Liu (Shanghai Ocean University, China), presided over this session, which was the third meeting of the 15th AFS Council.
A total of 17 participants attended the meeting in the Nha Trang University meeting room. The onsite participants were: Prof. Liping Liu, AFS President (Shanghai Ocean University); Prof. Neil Loneragan (Immediate Past President, Murdoch University); Prof. Murni Marlina Abd Karim (Secretary, Universiti Putra Malaysia); Dr. Nur Leena Wong W.S. (Treasurer, Universiti Putra Malaysia); Dr. Kuldeep Kumar Lal (Director of Central Institute of Brackishwater Aquaculture); Prof. Marieta Sumagaysay (University of the Philippines Tacloban College); Prof. Budy Wiryawan (IPB University); Prof. Indah Susilowati (University of Diponegoro); Prof. Xuxiong Huang (Shanghai Ocean University); Prof. Yu-Hung Lin (National Pingtung University); Prof. Nguyen Phu Hoa (Nong Lam University); Prof. Kyoko Kusakabe (Chairperson of GAFS, Asian Institute of Technology); Mrs. Malathi Thanamsegaram (AFS Executive Officer, Universiti Putra Malaysia); and Ms. Hu Chunxiao (AFS Assistant, Universiti Putra Malaysia).
Online participants included: Prof. Wilfredo Campos (University of the Philippines Visayas); Prof. Han-Jia Lin (Department of Bioscience and Biotechnology, NTOU); and Dr. P.K. Pradhan (Chairperson of FHS).
Additionally, Prof. Phạm Quốc Hùng, Mr. Luong Dinh Duy, and Prof. Le Minh Hoang (CAA8 organizers and sponsors from the China-ASEAN Belt and Road Joint Laboratory on Mariculture Technology) joined the meeting.
The meeting covered progress updates on Cage Aquaculture in Asia (CAA8) and discussed upcoming conferences, including the 5th International Symposium for Aquaculture and Fisheries Education (ISAFE5) in 2027 in Indonesia, the 15th Asian Fisheries and Aquaculture Forum (15AFAF) in China, the 10th Gender in Aquaculture and Fisheries Symposium (GAFS10), and the Diseases in Asian Aquaculture conference scheduled for 2028 in Japan. The Council also discussed the upcoming meeting schedule, the establishment of new branches, and plans to continue the AFS webinar series.
