Dear AFS Members,
We are pleased to inform you that during the 35th AFS Council meeting, the 9th Council of the Asian Fisheries Society (AFS) has decided that hosting of the International Symposium on Aquaculture and Fisheries Education (AFE) will be open for bidding through an expression of interest (EOI) process from member countries. The background of holding the symposium is attached below.
We are now conducting an open bidding from member countries to host the AFE scheduled between June 2009 and December 2009.
Successful applicant needs to have seed fund and suitably qualified staff to hold and manage the symposium. It is expected that AFE could attract between 200-350 participants.
Interested organizations and/or institutions may submit their expression of interest (EOI) to host the AFE by sending an EOI message to AFS Secretariat at this email address: info@asianfisheriessociety.org
The deadline for submission is on August 31, 2008 (Philippine time). Short listed institutions and organizations will be invited to submit their tender for hosting the AFE in 2009.
Thank you for your cooperation and continued support to the Society.
Sincerely yours,
Emi Flores
Executive Officer
Asian Fisheries Society
Background:
Education is the foundation for the development of a particular field. In the era of globalization, information exchange and collaboration among different educational institutions is extremely important to ensure the offering of updated knowledge on the rapid advancement in science and technology to students. Most educational institutions are facing similar problems and difficulties in aquaculture and fisheries education. However to date, no international/ regional symposium on aquaculture and fisheries education has been held to gather educators from different regions to exchange experience and information, promote collaborations within or across a region, identify strategies for the development of aquaculture and fisheries education, and develop an educational network on aquaculture and fisheries. Therefore, the First International Symposium on Aquaculture and Fisheries Education with the theme “Future of Aquaculture and Fisheries Education” is proposed to be organized by AFS in cooperation with a host institution in 2009.
