AFS Webinar Series September.
10 Oct, 2024
The Asian Fisheries Society’s second webinar, "Developing ecosystem understanding for ecosystem-based fisheries management", presented by AFS President, Prof. Neil Loneragan. The webinar was hosted by the University of the Philippines Visayas (UPV) on 24 September 2024. During his presentation he covered the topics of the significance of Asian Fisheries and Aquaculture to global seafood production, the evolution of fisheries management to EBFM and examples of conceptual, qualitative and quantitative models to develop ecosystem understanding, including a tropical grouper fishery in Indonesia. He emphasised the need for transdisciplinary research across biological, mathematical and social sciences and the importance of collaborations among researchers, government agencies, non-government organisations, fishers and fishing communities. A pdf file of his presentation is available at the website. The number of participants during the presentation ranged from 180-192 (see screen shots below) and the feedback from the participants in the word cloud below was that it was an informative webinar for ecosystem sustainability.
